Renovation Realities

RENOVATION REALITIES...
My husband and I have been married for a little over year now, and we just bought our first place in Miami FL. We want to share our renovation journey with family, friends, and whoever else is interested in this kind of thing. I'll be documenting the details along the way. Starting from day one of demolition and ending when we are finally settled into a beautiful new home. Our goal is approximately a 2 month period until we are in the house, but only time will tell if that dream will be a reality.

Wish us luck!

Floor pulled out from under us ;-)

We're now at the end of our second week of renovations, and of course as it goes with many projects like this, there were a few surprises.  Turns out the subflooring and floor joists were pretty much completely rotted out so we will be needing to reinforce and replace everything. Luckily our contractor is awesome and is working hard to save us money.  So as of now the floors are all gutted out, and the back deck is completely gone revealing an old tile patio that is almost fully in tact aside from the big hole on the south side of it.
Hopefully all the projects under the house will be finished by next week and then they can start sealing up the floors. We've already picked out the flooring for most of the house, we are going with a dark stained solid bamboo.  We are going to do a tile of some sort in the kitchen and the bathrooms, but I'm still deciding on which one to go with.  Any suggestions on what color would go best with white cabinets, black granite counter tops and dark bamboo?
Here are some before pics along side what it looks like as of yesterday:
